Im not very sure about what i want to do, but I know i want to create a film about how adolescents view some sort of problem that we struggle with all over the world.
Hey Damila ~ I’m really interested in the question you presented in the survey: “Nobody every listens to adolescents; If we are the future, why don’t our opinions matter?” It sounds like your goal is to “create a system where teenagers can talk about their ideas or opinions and someone will actually consider or listen to what they have to say.”
This is so important!
So I have a few ideas. I know you were interested in creating a film, but you should check out a book called “Fires in the Bathroom.” (link here) It’s written by Kathleen Cushman (who knows Ms. Berger, so you could probably talk to her) about “advice for teachers from high school students.” I read it when I was studying teaching, and it helped me understand school from the students’ perspective.
I’m interested in how whatever you create (film, etc) could actually be used by “adults” to understand teenagers better. I wonder if it would be helpful to identify an issue you’re especially interested in (like school, or like relationships with parents) and begin to think about what medium you could use (film, book, etc) to tell that story from a teenager’s point of view. Sometimes, I talk to parents who are really struggling with how to communicate with their teenage kids, so I know that’s an issue that could be addressed in some way.
PS: Another book is Thanks and Have Fun Running the Country, which is a collection of letters to President Obama.
D – please respond to the above and post your spring break activities.
I like your ideas. I think that you just have to get a perspective from teenagers that adults don’t know about yet. I think the film is also a great medium to do this project with.
I like your Idea, I think that this can shed light on a lot of things that teenagers go through and can be shared all across the world.
I think your ideas would be interesting and important to share to people all around the world, it’s less film about adolescents and I think this would be such a great idea.
